Pet Valu brings people and pets together for Pet Appreciation Month

Pet supply retailer raising funds for local animal welfare groups
April 25, 2019

Pet parents will get to pamper and cherish new cuddly companions this Pet Appreciation Month as Pet Valu brings people and pets together during National Adoption Weekend, April 26-28. For national specialty pet supply retailer, Pet Valu, Pet Appreciation Month in April is full of paw-portunity. This month, customers will see local Pet Valu storefront windows embellished with blue paper paws representing customer donations to local rescue and shelter partners including hundreds of humane societies, SPCAs and pet rescues.

From Friday, April 26, through Sunday, April 28, local rescue partners will be at Pet Valu stores with pets available for adoption. Anyone adopting a pet will receive a free Pet Parent Guide, as well as coupons for a free pet tag and a free bag of food. Stores will also offer sales, raffles and refreshments all weekend long.

“Pet Valu has hosted National Adoption Weekend in partnership with local shelters and rescues for eight years. With so many adorable pets in shelters awaiting the chance to find a loving home and family, this is a great opportunity for us to help people meet them and make a difference in the lives of these animals together,” said President and CEO of Pet Valu Richard Maltsbarger.

In celebration of Pet Appreciation Month, Pet Valu will also donate the proceeds from the sales of its special, limited edition, $5 pet bandanas throughout April to local animal welfare organizations. Anyone who donates will receive a $5 coupon to use at Pet Valu, and their donation will go directly to the rescues in their community. Last April, Pet Valu donated more than $678,000 through this effort.

“Supporting local rescues and shelters and making adoptions possible is one of the most important pieces of our work at Pet Valu,” added Tina Shane, chief store operations officer for Pet Valu. “A number of customers are also able to celebrate Pet Appreciation Month because of the companion they found at one of our local adoption events.”
